MSOnline PowerShell retired; AzureAD PowerShell deprecated and retiring

Administrators and automation that manage Entra ID (users, groups, licensing, MFA) via the legacy MSOnline or AzureAD PowerShell modules.

What administrators should do

Identify scripts, runbooks, and scheduled tasks using MSOnline, AzureAD, or AzureADPreview. Migrate them to Microsoft Graph PowerShell; Microsoft Entra PowerShell is also a Microsoft-supported, Graph-based option. MSOnline retired on May 30, 2025. AzureAD remains deprecated and Microsoft describes it as retiring, with no single final shut-off date confirmed by the current first-party sources. Migration is not automatic: cmdlet names, parameters, output objects, and permissions can differ, so test converted scripts before relying on them.

What happens if this is ignored

MSOnline scripts depend on a retired module and should not be treated as supported or current. AzureAD scripts depend on a deprecated module Microsoft is retiring. Migration to Graph PowerShell is not one-to-one, so untested replacements can fail because cmdlet names, parameters, output objects, and permissions differ.
