AzureAD and MSOnline PowerShell modules deprecated and retiring
The MSOnline and AzureAD PowerShell modules are deprecated and retiring in 2025. Migrate scripts to Microsoft Graph PowerShell.
Product
Microsoft Entra ID
Announced
30 March 2024
Effective from
30 March 2025
Who is affected
Administrators and automation that manage Entra ID (users, groups, licensing, MFA) via the legacy MSOnline or AzureAD PowerShell modules.
Admin roles to involve: Identity admin, Microsoft 365 admin, Automation/scripting owners
What administrators should do
Inventory scripts, runbooks, and scheduled tasks that import the MSOnline or AzureAD (and AzureAD Preview) PowerShell modules, and migrate them to the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK or Microsoft Entra PowerShell. The AzureAD module's deprecation notice period ended March 30, 2025; MSOnline retirement rolled out through 2025. Related Azure AD Graph APIs are also retiring.
What happens if this is ignored
Scripts using the retired modules stop working, breaking identity automation such as onboarding/offboarding, licensing, and reporting jobs.
