Inactive goo.gl short links stop working on August 25, 2025
Inactive goo.gl short links stop returning a response on August 25, 2025. Audit documents, sites, and emails and replace any inactive goo.gl links.
Product
Google URL Shortener (goo.gl)
Announced
18 July 2024
Effective from
25 August 2025
Who is affected
Organizations that embedded goo.gl short links in documentation, intranet pages, email templates, or archived communications.
Admin roles to involve: Google Workspace super admin, Knowledge/content owners
Why no action is required
Awareness, with a light audit. After August 25, 2025 only goo.gl links that showed no recent activity stop working (a visit shows a "this link will no longer work" notice beforehand); actively used goo.gl links and links generated by Google apps such as Maps are preserved. Check internal documents, sites, signatures, and archived emails for inactive goo.gl links and replace them.
What happens if this is ignored
Inactive goo.gl links in old content silently break after August 25, 2025, so references and calls-to-action stop resolving.
