Google Meet can require participant consent for recordings and transcripts

Who is affected

Organizations on eligible Workspace editions (Business/Enterprise Standard and Plus, Frontline Plus, and various Education editions) that record or transcribe Meet meetings.

Admin roles to involve: Google Workspace super admin, Meet service admin, Compliance/privacy owners

Why no action is required

If your organization has consent or compliance requirements for recording, enable the new explicit-consent setting so participants must agree before recording, transcription, or Take Notes with Gemini begins, and choose what happens when someone declines (including removing them from the meeting). It is off by default and configured per domain, OU, or group in the Admin console under Google Meet settings.

What happens if this is ignored

None required — without it, meetings record and transcribe without an explicit consent prompt, which may not meet local consent or compliance expectations.
