What administrators should do
Remove the Teams live chat widget from all websites before October 5, 2026 — on each page, delete the <script> tag with id="chatbot". Move customer engagement to a supported tool. New customers cannot set up Teams live chat from August 6, 2026. Existing Teams channels and List data remain per your tenant's retention policies. Announced in Message Center post MC1449174.
What happens if this is ignored
After October 5, 2026 the widget is hidden and stops relaying chats, so website visitor conversations silently fail to reach Teams.
