Visio 2016 and Visio 2019 reached end of support on October 14, 2025

Who is affected

Organizations running perpetual-license Visio 2016 or Visio 2019 for diagramming. This end-of-support event applies to those versions, not the entire product: Microsoft has not discontinued Visio.

What administrators should do

Identify remaining Visio 2016/2019 installations and whether users need web-only or desktop capabilities. Current options include Visio in eligible Microsoft 365 plans for basic web use, Visio Plan 1 for more web-based diagramming capabilities, Visio Plan 2 for web and desktop use, or Visio Standard 2024 / Professional 2024 as a supported perpetual option. These options are not feature-equivalent; select according to requirements. As an administrator precaution, test critical diagrams, templates and workflows before replacing unsupported installations.

What happens if this is ignored

Installed Visio 2016/2019 apps can continue running after October 14, 2025, but continued operation does not mean continued support. Microsoft security updates, bug fixes and technical support have ended for these versions, leaving newly discovered vulnerabilities unpatched.
