From October 5, 2026, deleting a Workspace account permanently deletes its secondary calendars. Update offboarding to transfer ownership first.

Who is affected
All Google Workspace customers. Any team relying on secondary calendars owned by individual user accounts is at risk when those accounts are deleted.

What administrators should do
Update user-offboarding runbooks so shared secondary calendars (rooms, rotas, team calendars) are transferred to a new owner before the departing user's account is deleted. Google's automatic reassignment of orphaned calendars stops on October 5, 2026. Use the Calendar API ownership-transfer endpoint (available since June 2026) with the Admin SDK to inventory and transfer organization-owned secondary calendars.
What happens if this is ignored
Secondary calendars owned by a deleted account are permanently deleted with it — shared team calendars and their event history disappear without warning.
